Evangel 2020 commencement to be virtual
Evangel University President Carol A. Taylor, Ph.D., announced today that Commencement 2020 will be a virtual commencement — 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15. The 62nd Annual Commencement for Evangel, which had been scheduled to be in person, will now be held virtually due to public health considerations. The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary will celebrate its 47th Annual Commencement as a part of the same ceremony.

Bob Eby appointed as director of AGTS’ preaching center
Rev. Robert M. Eby is the new director of the Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Tim Hager, the dean of AGTS and vice president of Evangel University, made the announcement Monday, June 29, 2020.

Jon Spence honored as a 2020 Icon of Education by Ingram’s Magazine
Dr. Jon Spence of Evangel University has been recognized by Ingram’s Magazine as one of their 2020 Icons of Education. The Kansas City-based business magazine selected 10 distinguished educators from the states of Kansas and Missouri for this honor. Jon serves as the director of the Center for Student Success.

Evangel University revised Fall 2020 schedule for traditional undergraduate students
Evangel University has revised its Fall 2020 traditional undergraduate schedule as a continued response to the coronavirus pandemic and in an effort to ensure the health and safety of its campus community. The changes include moving the start date of fall classes up one week, now set to begin on Aug. 21, as well as the elimination of fall break and concluding the fall semester on Nov. 24, just before Thanksgiving.

Race relations examined in timely new book by Evangel/AGTS grads
Let’s Start Again is a timely new book addressing racial tension in America, written by Evangel University graduates Alex & Angela Bryant. The foreword is written by Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King. The genesis of the book was a three-minute video produced by the Bryant family in 2016 titled, “I Have No Words, But I Will Not Be Silent.” That video has been viewed on Facebook more that 35 million times.

Evangel University business students competed in the restructured 2020 Enactus USA Online Exposition and placed in the top 12 out of 378 US Enactus teams. For the 2nd year in a row, Evangel students advanced into the semi-final round of competition. In addition, two students earned Enactus Service Leadership Awards.
