AGTS Baccalaureate & Commencement activities moved to August 2020

The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary of Evangel University has moved its annual Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies to mid-August, due to COVID-19 and the cancellation of campus events this spring. A total of 65 scholars from 27 states and four foreign countries have completed their degrees from AGTS this year.

The Missouri College Media Association presented 21 awards — including First Place for the Best Overall Newspaper in their division — to student journalists at Evangel University, on Tuesday, April 7. The Lance, Evangel’s campus newspaper, and Excalibur, the yearbook, are members of MCMA.

Students are excited about new Business Analytics Certificate program

Evangel University’s Department of Business & Economics has launched a Business Analytics Certificate. Starting in the fall of 2020, working adult students can also earn the certificate as part of the CAGS programs or as a stand-alone certificate.

Joel Griffin — Evangel prof earns doctorate in music ed.

Joel Griffin, associate professor of music at Evangel University, recently completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education with a research emphasis in jazz studies at Boston University. Griffin is a saxophonist, composer and educator. He has been on the professional music scene since 1998, and has been the director of jazz studies at Evangel since 2012.

OBITUARY: Robert Herman Spence, 84, passed into the presence of the Lord on Feb. 19, 2020 in Springfield, Mo.  His was a life spent in service to his family, his church, his community, and to the students, faculty, and friends of Evangel University.

Evangel University Orchestra, Sinfonia in concert, Feb. 25

The Evangel University Orchestra and Sinfonia will present a joint concert on Tuesday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall. “As a highlight of the night, the Sinfonia will give a preview performance of selections from its new CD, which will be released in early April,” said Dr. Larry Dissmore, director.

Evangel prof publishes research on 17th century poet

Nathan H. Nelson (Ph.D.), professor of English and chair of the Humanities Department at Evangel University, has published a highly specialized book of original research findings — George Herbert’s 82: Psalmic Social Disorientation in “The Temple” — dealing with the writings of English author George Herbert (1593-1633).

Dedication of Torah scroll at AGTS of Evangel University, Feb. 6

Evangel University and the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary will host a solemn dedication ceremony for the authentic Torah scroll that was received last fall for academic purposes. The dedication will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, in the grand lobby of AGTS, which is located on the north edge of Evangel’s campus, at Glenstone and Division.

Bishop Hankerson returns to Springfield as guest of Evangel University & AGTS

Evangel University & AGTS welcome Bishop Elijah Hankerson III of St. Louis, Missouri, back to campus for a series of special events. A former Springfield pastor and an EU/AGTS alumnus, he will speak in two chapel services and meet with students on January 29 and 30, 2020.

Leasha Ramey Bear Piano Scholarship to honor ’77 music grad

The Leasha Ramey Bear Piano Scholarship was recently established at Evangel University by her family to honor the memory of Leasha. A 1977 graduate of Evangel, she was a beloved music teacher in Willard and Springfield public schools for nearly 40 years. She battled cancer for the past 14 months and went to be with the Lord on Dec. 23, 2019.

Former Evangel University basketball star Allie Swanson is competing this week in the Miss America Pageant, representing her home state of Nebraska. The finals of the Miss America competition will be broadcast live on NBC, Thursday, December 19th at 7 p.m. Central.

Kern Family Foundation awards grant to expand 4+1 Fast Track ministry program at AGTS of Evangel University

The Kern Family Foundation in Waukesha, Wisconsin, recently awarded a grant to the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary of Evangel University to support expanding its accelerated master’s degree program. AGTS received this second grant to expand the 4+1 Fast Track Program for highly qualified students committed to full-time, long-term ministry in the United States.

Evangel U. provides hoodies to Weller Elementary students & employees, Dec. 9

Evangel University athletes will distribute sweatshirt hoodies to all 367 students, teachers and staff at Weller Elementary School, on Monday, Dec. 9, 2019. In addition, excess funds raised for the project will be used to pay off the student lunch balances at the school. Those bills currently total nearly $500.
