Below you’ll find downloadable forms related to:

  • Dependency Override Requests
  • Special Circumstance Appeals
  • Unaccompanied & Homeless Youth
  • Verification
Instructions:

Please review each form’s description carefully to make sure you’re submitting the correct one. Providing complete and accurate documentation will help us process your financial aid as quickly and efficiently as possible.

📌 Dependency Override Policy

Students who do not meet the federal criteria for independent status may request a professional judgment review to override their dependency status. These overrides are granted only in rare and exceptional situations—known as “unusual circumstances”—and are evaluated case by case.

Examples of Circumstances That May Qualify:

  • Abandonment by parents
  • An abusive family environment that threatens the student’s health or safety
  • Inability to locate parents
  • Other extreme and documented unusual circumstances

“Unusual circumstances” refer to situations where it would be inappropriate to expect a parental contribution toward the student’s education.

Situations That Do Not Qualify:

The U.S. Department of Education has clarified that the following do not qualify as unusual circumstances on their own:

  1. Parents refuse to contribute to the student’s education
  2. Parents are unwilling to provide FAFSA or verification information
  3. Parents do not claim the student as a dependent on their taxes
  4. The student is financially self-sufficient

Important Note:

Approval of a dependency override is not automatic and applies only for the award year in which it is granted. Students must submit supporting documentation each year they request a review.

📌 Special Circumstance Appeal (2024–2025)

We understand that the FAFSA doesn’t always reflect your full financial picture. If you or your family have experienced a significant change in circumstances, you may be eligible to submit a Special Circumstance Appeal for additional financial aid consideration.

Appeals are reviewed only after you’ve received your initial financial aid offer for the current academic year.

What You Need to Know:

  • All special circumstance requests are subject to federal verification
  • You must submit supporting tax documents and documentation related to your circumstance
  • Submission does not guarantee an adjustment to your aid
  • Decisions are final and communicated directly to the student
  • If approved, additional aid applies only to the current academic year
  • A new appeal is required each year the situation applies

Examples of Situations That May Qualify:

  • Loss or reduction of income (layoff, illness, reduced work hours, etc.)
  • Tuition paid for siblings attending private K–12 schools (excluding the Evangel applicant)
  • Catastrophic, unreimbursed medical or dental expenses
  • Non-recurring income received in the prior tax year
  • Loss of unemployment, disability, Social Security, veterans’ benefits, child support, or alimony

📌 Unaccompanied & Homeless Youth

An Unaccompanied Youth is a student who is not living with their parent or guardian. A Homeless Youth is someone who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate place to live—such as staying in shelters, motels, cars, or temporarily with others because they have no permanent housing.

If you meet these criteria, you may be considered independent for financial aid purposes, which means you do not need to provide parental information on the FAFSA. To apply, you must provide documentation of your living situation.

How to Apply:

Download and complete the Unaccompanied & Homeless Youth Application form below and submit it with the required documentation to the Office of Financial Aid for review.

📌 Verification Forms

Federal verification is a review process required by the U.S. Department of Education to ensure the information provided on your FAFSA is accurate and complete. To complete the verification process, you must choose the correct worksheet based on your status as a dependent or independent student.

  • Dependent Students: If you’re a dependent student, you’ll need to provide both your and your parents’ information on the verification form.
  • Independent Students: If you’re an independent student, you’ll include your and, if applicable, your spouse’s information.

What Makes You Independent?

You may be considered an independent student if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • You are at least 24 years old
  • You are married
  • You are a graduate or professional student
  • You are a veteran or member of the armed forces
  • You are an orphan or ward of the court
  • You have legal dependents other than a spouse
  • You are an emancipated minor
  • You are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless

If you believe you meet one of these criteria, please select the Independent Student Verification Worksheet.
